Coffee Time Comics News

There's No News...

...like no news, and seriously, there's no news. I haven't updated this in like three weeks mainly because my lovely girlfriend was in town and when she's here I'm already dedicating enough man-hours to Coffee Time Comics and my actual job that something has to go. That something was the "news." Now that I'm back in sleeping-alone-at-night-mode, I ain't got much to say. Weeeeell, that's probably not too true.

Updates!

If anybody out there actually uses our Archives where you can get a couple of pages at a time instead of flipping through our comics page by page, I updated that for both comics and it is now as current as it can be. I'm not even sure people use this too much, but for those that do, sorry it took like 6 months to get it to where it should be.

Believe it or not but the comics are nearing their end. Within a few months the current incarnations will be over. Next month will be one year of the current website, and come May we'll have been online for two years. Crazy! If I have it my way, there'll be plenty more Coffee Time Comics coming your way for a long time. I guess the best thing to do is not talk about these things too much though, so I'll just say that it's a plan.

First Review!

Looks like we got a little review done up for Coffee Time over at a site called Artpatient.com. You can check out the actual review here.

Flicks

I saw a couple of movies in the last few weeks and I'd say they are all worth spending your hard earned cash on.

There Will Be Blood: This is a movie unlike anything that has been made before it. Bold statement? Sure, but true. This film was truly unnerving, and it wasn't just Daniel Day-Lewis' performance. Everything from the cinematography to the score was in tune with each other for a film experience like no other. I truly felt I was watching something that I'd never see again. It's the type of film that i don't think you can even truly appreciate in one viewing. There's a lot more stuff, like the humor I'm sure, that I look forward to unearthing once it comes out on video, but if you get the chance to see this in a theater, do it! It truly is an original vision.

Cloverfield: The only way I can really describe this movie is as a carnival ride. Every turn of the corner is going to throw a new fun surprise your way. Seriously, this one hell of an entertaining movie and truly worthy of the big screen. There's so much excitement throughout this film that you don't get to stop and think how truly dumb some of the shit going on is. But I'm not here to condemn a fun flick that aspired to try something different and succeeded, if only on a pure visceral level. So the characters are silly yuppies who do silly things, root for the monster!

Rambo: Who knew that Stallone would ever make a comeback. I truly thought he was over with all the straight-to-video crap he was making, but now the man is 2-for2 with Rocky Balboa and now Rambo. Not only does it smack you across the face with the atrocities going on in Burma, but it smacks you up side the head and yells at you for forgetting what action movies could be. This is definitely a trip back in time in some ways, though delivering something new. You truly have never seen carnage the way it is represented in the film. I actually look at the Burmese in this film as representing modern action films and Stallone shredding them to pieces with his .50 Caliber machine gun telling us what he thinks of them. In another scene, Rambo escorts a bunch of mercenaries on his boat, and one can't stop yammering away at him. Rambo just stares at him not saying a word. Yet again, i think Stallone was staring down the modern action hero and showing him how to act. There's a lot of anger left in John Rambo, and he doesn't mind sharing it with us. This movie was fun to watch from beginning to end and I suggest that you all go check it out. It reaches levels of cinematic insanity. The closest thing I can compare the levels it strives for is a grindhouse style flick. It has balls and it holds them proudly.

Guess there was more to say this week than I thought. Please donate to the American Cancer Society.

Welcome to 2008

I don't know when I started to really believe in New years Resolutions, but I do. I believe in making a few important changes to my life every now and then and this is the only time of the year that I really try and set it in stone. I'm usually pretty good at sticking to this stuff and this year can't be any different. My main resolutions are all about looking towards the future, not only in Coffee Time Comics, but for myself as a writer. After the current volumes of Coffee Time and Across the Way things are really going to be changing with the website. That's about 6 months away and I'm not 100% sure how exactly it is going to change. It's something I've got to start planning for and working on immediately, especially since Tobias and I aren't going to be able to put the same amount of comics out as we do now. We've got to get other people involved. As for my own writing, the one thing I'll be concentrating on most this year will be separate from this website. It's something Tobias and I want published and have got to make sure it's the best we've got. The biggest problem is that I don't want this website to suffer. Juggling all this is going to take some major time management, so in a way time management has got to be my biggest resolution.

Of course I also want to get out more because I don't do that nearly enough. And I also want to spend a little more time with friends and family(if that were at all possible, at least on the phone I can), which I almost never do. And my girlfriend and I are moving in together. So this year will be quite the challenge, but it has got to be a year where major work gets done. Next year I need to be that much closer to quitting the day job, or at least being published somehow. We'll see.

Stop by and say hi on our forums. We rarely hear from anybody who reads the comics. Please donate to the American Cancer Society.
