Das Puma

Sometimes you're feeling down in the dumps and only one thing can make you feel a little better, or at least numb your brain a little. I guess for tonight, what did it for me was a straight-to-video action flick called Puma. It was directed by Donnie Yen, who mostly works in Hong Kong action films, and shot in Germany. It was basically the kung fu German remake of Die Hard. Completely ridiculous movie that I later found out was actually a German TV show. But it was awesome in another way, not in a way that I'll ever watch it again, but it kept me laughing and it kept the action in there enough that it was very entertaining. I was in the mood for something light and ridiculous I guess. Previously in the day I watched Ran, which was a beautiful and epic film directed by Akira Kurosawa and adapted from the Shakespeare play, King Lear.

I just finished read King Lear in my Dramatic Literature class and I think i can officially start becoming a Shakespeare junky. Of course I have to finish the class before I can read anymore, but even then I have a few books I'd like to read as I begin some major writing on me and Tobias' next project. I'm definitely going to read Hamlet next. I've read it before, but I feel I've graduated to another level of understanding Shakespeares' language with King Lear.

I like to plan ahead. I often think about the future, sometimes to a point of defeat, but not always. Right now I'm planning to celebrate with my family. I don't know when this celebration will happen, but it repeats over and over, and I believe it will be a beautiful day. Probably the best.

Sorry I didn't update the news last week, but that happens sometimes. Below is something else that makes the hard times good.

Quit Your Job!

The day I wake up and I'm able to say to myself "John, you can finally quit your job, and you probably don't ever have to get one again," is the day that I constantly look forward to. And I'm not talking about my current one, or retirement, but just quitting period. I don't despise what I do or anything. It's actually the first job that I've ever had that kind of like. But man, all I want to do with my life is write stories. This weekend I had an extra day off and I got to do a little extra work, and it was some work I was proud of. I did slack off a bit, IT WAS MY DAY OFF MIND YOU, but I just enjoyed sitting at my computer working on shit. I wish I could do this five days a week and go camping on the weekends. Or just hang out and do "stuff". That would be great, and I'm sure there are a lot of people out there like me who want the same things.

Maybe I'm just thinking out loud today, but there is so much stuff that Tobias and I want to do, and dammit, I want to do it now! Of course that isn't an option, but we will get there. I promise you that. While we wrap up the current Coffee Time Comics slate, we will be starting work on two new endeavors. One will be associated with this website, one will not. We've talked about both on here before, and it is getting closer for their time to come. While we get down and dirty and start work on Esperanza(finally!), we'll be enlisting people to help us keep this website alive. More on all this stuff when the time is closer. For now we'll just keep on dreaming about that day, when it comes to work, we can just say no.

We've got some nice looking stuff this week. I hope you enjoy it.

It's Hot

I'm not usually one to complain about the weather. In most cases I accept it for what it is. But man, it is motherfuckin' hot outside. You know when falling asleep is hard, but waking up is easy, something is wrong. You know when you're sitting at your desk in your shorts and you can feel the little beads dripping down your back, something ain't right. When you walk outside and it feels like the oven door closed behind you, it's hot outside. I went to the movies today for the A/C, the movie was okay, but the A/C is what counted. But no matter how hot it is, there will always be detractors.

I was at the grocery store today getting some money(and a candy bar that melted before I even reached the theater), and the cashier asked me how I was. I responded with a simple bit of cliched small talk. "I'm hot." That's all I said, I was collecting my money and about to leave when the douche behind me just had to chime in with "It's not hot. I'm from so-and-so Texas and when it's like this it's about 8 degrees hotter with humidity." Thanks for the freakin' lesson in the climate of your hometown. I have news for you, I don't care. I also understand bullshit very well, and anybody who says 100 degree weather isn't hot is a liar. When it's 80 degrees outside and probably a little higher in my room at night while I'm trying to sleep, that's what you call hot. I know humidity very well, and I don't care whether Southern California has it or not, it's still damn hot outside.

That's all. Enjoy the comics.
